The newly built structure, made of reinforced concrete, steel and glass, was designed with the aim of combining the language of contemporary architecture with the pre-existing structures, with the Viale delle Piagge and with the external greenery: trait d' union between the surrounding area and the new building is the system of squares and the stepped staircase that connects the entrance of the building to the street level.
The exhibition centre, built on a project by the architect Marco Guerrazzi, involved the recovery of the former monastery of S. Michele degli Scalzi (from the mid-12th century) and the consequent use of the internal rooms of the building (twelve rooms) for the staging of temporary exhibitions of a contemporary nature.

The heart of the exhibition will be the San Michele degli Scalzi Exhibition Center (Viale delle Piagge), adjacent to the remains of the last bastion of production in the city, the Richard Ginori factory. The exhibition will unfold in the rooms arranged around the ancient cloister, with a view of the bell tower decorated with ceramic basins.
All the finalists of both the single contest and the series contest will be on display, as well as the exhibition of last year's two winners Corey Melton and Alessandro Iasevoli, the first exhibition of "WOMEN IN STREET ITALY" and at the end of the portfolio exhibition of Roberto Filomena winner of last year's portfolio review.
The Portfolio Readings will be held inside the ancient cloister, with street photography expert readers.
